Choice Installs Cctv, Access Control & Intruder Systems for Grade II-listed Theatre’s £50m Refurbishment
Choice has installed the security systems at London’s prestigious Victoria Palace Theatre, which reopened in December 2017 to premier in the UK the record-breaking American hip-hop musical Hamilton, having been closed since April 2016 for a major £50m refurbishment.
By winning a tender to support the theatre project’s main electrical contractor LondonGuild Ltd, Choice has been responsible for cctv, access control (including a stage door intercom) and intruder alarm system installations. Critical to the success of the project was the necessity to respect the fabric of this Grade II listed historic building. The theatre’s objectives were to maximise the potential of the stage and flytower, extend the back-of-house facilities, improve the comfort of the auditorium to seat 1528 and maximise the amount of foyer space and front-of-house areas.
The new cctv system uses 25 Avigilon cameras, ranging from 2MP domes to two 8MP 180degree exterior wall-mounted pano dome units sited on the front and side elevations. Each camera was colour-finished to blend with its specific location décor. The system also required Choice to supply and configure a server for cctv image storage, with image review on-site via PCs running Avigilon ACC5 software.
A six-door, proximity token-reading access control system has been supplemented with a Comelit IP-based video intercom at the stage door. This incorporates one of the first UK installations of Comelit’s call logging system, which provides a video archive of all transactions via the intercom for audit trail/evidential purposes.
