Fire System Upgrade At Dolphin Square

Dolphin Square graphic13-month project spanned 1068 flats

Choice Fire has completed a 13-month project to upgrade the fire systems at Dolphin Square, the multi-storey, prestige short- and long-term residential let development in central London.

Dolphin Square’s fire risk assessment resulted in enhancements to the fire alarm system which included the addition of a multi-sensor detector in the lobby of each residential unit. This detection was required in addition to the already existing detectors, as it routes back to the onsite 24/7 Security team to allow for early warning.

Thus the Choice Fire project was to upgrade the fire detection within the residential blocks (1068 flats), and create additional system capacity to handle the extra detectors. The process involved installing three supplementary 4-loop, addressable Kentec Syncro panels and additional cables. Choice Fire was required to split the cable loops and re-zoning the site to share the overall load of the devices. Choice Fire then installed an Hochiki Multi-Sensor (optical and heat detector) in each of the 1068 dwellings. The multi-sensors were sourced via distributor Haes Systems. Solo Detector Testers contributed valuable support during the project at commissioning stage.

The project would have not run as smoothly if it wasn’t for the support, coordination and cooperation of the Dolphin Square Facilities team. A considerable amount of liaison with the tenants on-site, to allow for access to each flat in a sequential manner, was required to ensure smooth running of the programme. David King, Choice project manager, was pivotal in overseeing the project alongside the Choice Fire installation team. Overall the client as well as the residents’ feedback for the process has all been positive.
