Security & Fire Systems Protection for greenfield development
Choice Fire & Security Solutions has installed and commissioned fire and security alarm systems at the new, combined Church of England Primary School, Pre-School and integrated village hall community facilities in Etchingham, West Sussex. Choice was awarded the contract for this development by M&E contractor Mechanical Services Ltd. The project’s main contractor was Balfour Beatty. This greenfield construction is arranged in three, connected, modern, timber clad ‘barns’, arranged to respond to the sloping site on the edge of the village. The barns have slate roofs with extended canopies and glazed gables.
Intruder protection for the site incorporates 31 TriCover dual-output movement detectors and 10 alarm door contacts located at the entrance doors, plant room and other specific risk locations. The system is connected to Emizon IP signalling, which allows 24-hour remote access. Card access control is based around a PLAN access control system with door reader locations including the main entrance and lobby door from reception leading to the school area, as well as the Pre-School entrance doors. The access system is operated locally via the site’s administration PC; for all reporting requirements and card allocation, setting of card access levels, time profiles etc.
The analogue addressable fire detection and alarm system provided by Choice comprises: 34 smoke detectors, four heat detectors, 21 call-points, 44 alarm sounders and six firedoor holders.
Mark Hayman, Electrical Contracts Manager, Mechanical Services Ltd commented: “This was our first experience of working with Choice Fire & Security Solutions, their performance and professionalism throughout the whole project was excellent, their management team and site staff have all shown a common commitment to providing a good quality finished project.”
Choice Director Tony Evans said: “We are very proud of the work carried out at this site and the contractor commendations we have received for our timeliness, tidiness and efficiency. To-date, we have been awarded a further two projects by Mechanical Services Ltd.”
